10 Best Themed Party Ideas

10 Best Themed Party Ideas

Hawaiian Luau

  • The drinks

Everything you drink should be served out a coconut. Doesn’t have to be real- there are plenty of plastic options at the store, but it would be cool to have the real deal. Sugary fruity drinks like pina coladas, mojitos, and mai tais should be the drink of choice.

  • The costume

Flowery Hawaiian shirts, hula skirts, and coconut brassieres if you feel like going all out. Anything beachy, flowery, and colorful should get the job done. And don’t forget your lei.

  • The decorations

I would say that on college budget, the decorations are probably the least of your priorities when planning this party. Spend your time and money getting together a killer costume and some nicer alcohol. If you do feel like getting super festive with it, go with tiki torches, some paper lanterns, palm trees in either sticker or blow up form and coconuts placed around the room.

CEOs and Office Hoes

  • The drinks

If you want to go really fancy, splurge and get the ingredients for a martini or an old fashioned. But realistically at a college party that’s probably not going to happen. And to be honest, are those drinks even any good? To pretend to be fancy, get the special shaped martini glasses from the thrift store and put whatever drink in there you’d prefer. You’ll still look hella classy and have a drink you actually enjoy.

  • The costume

Guys- Find yourself the nicest, sleekest suit you own and you’re set. No suit? Black dress pants and a crisp button down shirt will do just fine.

Girls- Slutty but professional is what we’re aiming for here ladies. You can get as risque as you’d like, but some good outfits are a collared shirt tied up in the front with a short black skirt, black dress and thigh high stockings, or a blazer with lingerie underneath. Mix and match and find something that’s professional-ish looking but sexy at the same time!

Snowpants or No Pants

  • The costume

The jist of this theme is pretty standard. You either wear snow pants and go the winter route for your costume or you wear no pants, and that’s pretty lenient. Underwear or a swimsuit are both options. It’s supposed to be a mash up of winter/summer so incorporate elements from one of those or both in your costume. Smaller winter accessories like mittens, goggles, or a scarf are best so that you don’t overheat at the party. The more extravagant the better.

  • The decorations

It’s optional as the focus should really be on the costume, but you could throw up some cut out snowflakes or icicles. Some skis or snowboards around the house would add a nice touch too.

Ugly Sweater

  • The drinks

There should be plenty of hard alcohol involved so that the guests can forget about the repulsive sweaters they’re wearing. Like lots and lots of it. As these parties usually take place during the colder months, hot chocolate and schnapps is a good idea. And spiced or cinnamon flavored anything will be sure to be popular. You could have a special shot or drink for the person with the ugliest sweater. The possibilities are endless just make sure there’s plenty of drinks to go around!

  • The costume

If you don’t have an ugly sweater laying around that’s been passed down through the years, it’s super easy to make a visit to your local thrift store and find a top notch sweater. It’s typically a party that’s thrown around Christmas time. Your sweater doesn’t have to be christmas themed but there’s a good chance it will be. Extra points if it involves noise or lights of any kind.

  • The decorations

The guests’ sweaters will be the main form of decoration here. As they’re often around the holidays you can have some decorations to go along with that, but it’s not necessary as the sweaters will have all the attention anyways.

Pajama Party

  • The drinks

Anything goes!

  • The costume

Again pretty simple- wear your pj’s. You can opt for the full set or go a little skimpier.

Guys- Flannel pants and shirt are an option as well as boxers and a white tank for a little more skin showing.

Girls- There’s a bit more flexibility with the girl’s costume choice. Again the full set with flannel pants and shirt are an option, but so are shorts and a cami. I would say the less clothes the better.

  • The decorations

Pillows and comforters are going to be your main decorations here. Anything that has anything to do with sleeping really will be fitting for this party. Strewn the pillows around the party area and that’s about it for decorations. Although you won’t actually be sleeping here, it will set the stage for the party.

Black Out or Get Out

  • The drinks

Hard alcohol is the name of the game here. Any and all alcohol is welcome at the party as long as there’s lots of it. Jungle juice is a fun and tasty way to get everyone feeling good. Mix together fruit juice of any kind with vodka and a few actual fruits thrown in there and you’ve got yourself an amazing and easy drink for everyone to enjoy.

  • The costume

Really anything black is good. Dress appropriately for the weather and have good footwear for the walk (stumble) home.

  • The decorations

The decorations for this party really translates to having none. There’s going to be heaps of alcohol involved and that translates to lots of intoxicated people which means decorations of any kind are likely to break. Vacate the house of any valuables/breakables so that the guests can be plastered and not have to worry about that precious vase on the mantelpiece.

Mardi Gras

  • The drinks

The hurricane is a classic New Orleans drink, but in all honesty, it’s not all that great. The ingredients include two different types of rum, lemon lime soda, and passion fruit juice, if you’d like to try it for yourself. Anything fruity and delicious will be a perfect drink for this party.

  • The costume

Bring the New Orleans festivity to your costume! Mardi gras is all about celebration and being over the top so make sure your outfit reflects that. It can be as simple as a feather boa or a simple green/gold headband or as extravagant as you’d like. Extravagant is really the way to go here. Don’t shy away from the tu-tu or maybe even a purple wig or headdress! Be as over the top as you’d like because that’s what Mardi Gras is all about.

  • The decorations

Purple gold and green are going to be your go to colors for all decorations. There will undoubtedly be beads incorporated in the costumes but don’t stop there! Get beads for the entire house. Beads or streamers make for easy and colorful decorations for your house party. All of this and much more can be found at your local party supply store.

White Trash Bash

  • The drinks

Cheap beer. Any and beer all is welcome. Busch Light would be my recommendation. And be sure you get a big plastic bin with ice to store it all in.

  • The costume

Really bring forth your inner redneck while putting together your costume. The trashier the better.

Guys- Some dirty blue jeans, a wife beater, and a baseball cap or cowboy hat will be the perfect get up. If you’re really feeling like committing to the outfit, it wouldn’t hurt to go out and buy a mullet wig.

Girls- Short jeans shorts, a cut off or tied up shirt, some colorful tacky makeup, and the cherry on top- a visible red thong. Trash at it’s finest.

  • The decorations

Junk stores are going to be your friend here. Make a visit and see what old lawn furniture you can find. Place that out in the front yard and that’s really all the decorations you’ll need. A bra flung across a stuffed animal would really set the scene, but it’s understandable if that’s unattainable.

Bathing Suits and Cowboy Boots

  • The drinks

Beer is most likely going to be your go to choice of drink here. Cowboys are a biggg fan of their whiskey though so have a bottle of jack too. It doesn’t really matter so much what you’re drinking, as long as you’re drinking a lot of it.

  • The costume

Keeping it simple is key here. Get yourself a bathing suit and some cowboys boots and that’s literally it. A cowboy hat if you’re feeling daring, but not necessary.

  • The decorations

Have yourself a pool for the party. This can mean a built in pool at the house, a rented country club pool, or really most likely, a blow up pool that you pick up quick at walmart. Kiddie pools are more than acceptable too. Some bales of hay around the pool will pull together the decorations. Water guns are super duper fun too, as always. And have some floaties for the pool, large or small they’re still fun.

Toga party

  • The drinks

Champagne maybe? Up to you!

  • The costume

You’re going to wear a toga- duh. This may sound easier than it actually is though. Be armed with safety pins and possibly tape to make sure everything stays in place. I have not had the best luck in constructing my toga so youtube is probably your best bet here to construct the absolute best toga.
